Apple Pie Taquitos
Description
The recipe begins by mixing sugar with cinnamon to coat the taquitos after rolling. The canned apple pie filling is drained and chopped for easy distribution across tortillas, which are rolled tightly to encase the filling. Brushing with melted butter and rolling in the cinnamon sugar mixture creates a sweet and crisp coating once baked.
Baking at a moderate temperature crisps the tortillas evenly while warming the apple filling inside. The taquitos develop a golden surface that provides texture contrast to the soft, tender apples. Serving with caramel sauce adds richness and amplifies the dessert-like qualities.
These taquitos are portable and easy to prepare, suitable for sharing at gatherings or enjoying as a quick snack. Leftovers keep well refrigerated for a few days and reheat best in the oven to maintain crispness. Optional mix-ins like nuts or raisins can add variety and texture to the filling.
Ingredients
- 20 ounce apple pie filling (1 can)
- 12 medium flour tortillas soft
- ¼ cup butter unsalted, melted
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350℉. Brush a 9x13 baking dish with some of the melted butter.
- In a shallow plate mix together the sugar and cinnamon. Empty the can of pie filling onto a cutting board and chop the apples into smaller pieces with a knife.
- Lay a tortilla flat and top with a couple tablespoons of the apple pie filling. Tightly roll up the tortilla.
- Brush the taquito with butter the roll it through the sugar/cinnamon mixture. Place the taquito in the prepared baking dish. Repeat with remaining tortillas and apple pie filling. You should have enough filling for the 12 tortillas.
- Transfer the baking dish to the oven and bake for about 15 minutes or until the taquitos start to get golden on top.
- Serve with caramel sauce if preferred.
Notes
- Choose soft, medium-sized flour tortillas for easy rolling and appropriate size for baking dishes.
- Since oven temperatures vary, start checking taquitos at 12 minutes to avoid over-browning.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container refrigerated for up to three days; reheat in an oven to keep crisp.
- Add finely chopped nuts or raisins to the filling for added texture and flavor variation.
