Apple Pull Apart Bread

Apple Pull Apart Bread features flaky biscuit layers filled with a cinnamon-spiced apple mixture, baked in a loaf pan until golden and topped with vanilla icing. The texture combines soft, tender biscuit dough with sweet, tender cooked apples and a sticky, spiced sauce. This layered bread is meant to be torn apart and enjoyed warm, making it suitable for breakfast or a sweet snack.

Description

This Apple Pull Apart Bread starts with refrigerated flaky biscuits that are peeled into layers to create multiple thin biscuit halves. Each piece is filled with a cooked apple mixture seasoned with cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and allspice, then stacked to form vertical layers that bake into a pull-apart loaf. The apple filling is thickened and browned by cooking diced Gala apples with brown sugar and spices.

Baked at 350 degrees Fahrenheit, the loaf is cooked covered to allow thorough baking and then uncovered to brown the surface lightly. The result is a tender, layered bread with moist pockets of spiced apple throughout. Once slightly cooled, the loaf is drizzled with a vanilla powdered sugar icing made from powdered sugar, half and half, and vanilla extract, adding a sweet finish that complements the warm spices and brown sugar notes.

This bread serves well as a treat for breakfast or brunch, and the pull-apart format invites sharing. The balance between sweet, warmly spiced apple filling and flaky biscuit layers creates a comforting and textured sweet bread.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 cans refrigerated biscuits Grands brand, flaky
  • 4 Gala apples diced
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 Tablespoon brown sugar

ICING:

  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup half and half
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

BREAD:

  1. Add all the diced apples, brown sugar, and all seasonings to a large saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Stirring occasionally, until apples have browned and softened and sauce is thick. Set aside to cool.
  3. Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9 x 5 inch loaf pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  4. Begin to peel each biscuit by its layers. Goal is to have to make 16 biscuit halves. Spoon about a tablespoon of the apple filling onto each biscuit piece. Stack the biscuit piece on top of one another to form, about 4-5 in a stack.
  5. Place your stacks in the loaf pan, with the biscuit on its side, without filling touching the pan. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove from the oven.
  6. Now remove the foil and bake until golden brown about 5-8 minutes. Remove from the oven. Let the loaf cool for 5 minutes in the pan. After the 5 minutes remove the loaf from the pan.

ICING:

  1. Whisk together the powdered sugar and half and half, adding more if necessary to reach the desired consistency. Add the vanilla and whisk again.
  2. Drizzle liberally over the loaf.
