Applebee's Blondie
Description
This recipe starts by creaming melted unsalted butter with brown sugar before adding eggs and vanilla extract for moisture and flavor. Dry ingredients including all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt are whisked together and combined with the wet mixture. White chocolate chips and chopped nuts are folded in, giving textural contrast and bursts of sweetness and crunch.
The batter is spread into a greased 8x8 inch baking dish and baked until set, with baking times adjusted to achieve a gooey center or a firmer bar. The blondies cool and firm up, enhancing the chewiness and structure. While baking, a maple cream sauce is prepared by whisking softened butter, powdered sugar, cream cheese, and maple syrup, providing a smooth, sweet topping that pairs well with the blondies.
These bars are served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzled maple sauce, making for an indulgent dessert with balanced sweetness and richness. Variations include baking in a larger dish for thinner bars or doubling the recipe for bigger batches.
Ingredients
- 3/4 /4 cup unsalted butter melted
- 1 ½ cups brown sugar
- 1 large egg plus 1 egg yolk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 /2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 /2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 /2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 /2 cup pecans or walnuts, chopped
- 1/2 /2 cup white chocolate chips
MAPLE CREAM SAUCE:
- 1/4 /4 cup butter softened
- 1/4 /4 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons cream cheese softened
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- vanilla ice cream for serving
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350℉ and grease an 8x8 baking dish.
- In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until combined. Add the eggs and vanilla; beat until light in color.
- Whisk in the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir in the white chocolate chips and nuts.
- Spread into the prepared baking dish. Bake for 25-35 minutes or until the center is set. For a gooey center cook around 25 minutes. The bars will set up as they cool. Cook longer for firmer bars.
- While blondies are cooking, make the Maple Cream Sauce. In a small bowl, whisk together the butter, powdered sugar, cream cheese, and syrup by hand or with a mixer. If you want it thinner you can heat it for a few seconds in the microwave.
- Serve blondies warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, drizzled with the maple cream sauce.
Notes
- The recipe can be baked in a 9x9-inch pan for thinner blondies or doubled for a 9x13-inch pan.
- Baking time adjustment allows for gooey or firmer blondies depending on preference.
- The maple cream sauce can be thinned by briefly heating it, making it easier to drizzle.
