Arby's Chocolate Turnovers

Arby's Chocolate Turnovers are baked pastries made by wrapping melted chocolate and cream inside puff pastry triangles. The recipe involves melting chocolate with heavy cream to create a smooth filling, then folding portions of the filling inside puff pastry squares sealed with an egg wash. Baking produces golden, flaky turnovers with a rich chocolate center, finished by drizzling melted chocolate over the tops for added flavor and presentation.

Description

The turnover preparation begins by melting chocolate in a double boiler, then stirring in heavy cream to create a glossy chocolate filling. Puff pastry sheets are rolled out and cut into squares, each topped with a measured amount of chocolate filling to prevent leakage during baking. Two edges of each square are coated with an egg wash made from beaten egg and water, which acts as glue to seal the pastry into a triangle.

Baked at 350 degrees Fahrenheit (about 175 degrees Celsius) for approximately 15 to 20 minutes, the turnovers develop a pale tan color and a flaky crust. Once removed from the oven, additional melted chocolate is drizzled on top for added richness and appeal. The recipe emphasizes care when filling the pastries to avoid overflow and suggests reheating the chocolate if needed for drizzling.

This pastry is suitable as a dessert or a sweet snack. The balance of flaky puff pastry with creamy chocolate center offers a pleasing contrast in texture and flavor. It can be served fresh and warm to best enjoy the melting chocolate inside. The recipe does not specify storage directions but turnovers are best consumed shortly after baking to maintain crispness.

  • 10 ounces chocolate
  • 3 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Melt the chocolate in a double boiler until it is completely melted.
  3. Add 3 tablespoons of heavy cream and stir in the heavy cream.
  4. Prepare the egg wash by beating together the egg with 1 tablespoon of water.
  5. Roll out the puff pastry into a large square. Cut the square into 4 pieces.
  6. Place about a tablespoon of chocolate into the squares, be careful not to add too much chocolate, you do not want it to come out.
  7. Brush 2 edges of each square with the egg wash.
  8. Fold the squares into triangles and press to seal the edges.
  9. Place the turnovers on a baking sheet.
  10. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes. The turnovers should start to turn a pale tan when they are ready.
  11. Remove the turnovers from the oven and drizzle some of the remaining chocolate over them.
  12. You may need to warm the chocolate in the double boiler to make it liquid enough to drizzle.
