Arepas Recipe

Report
Arepas are corn flour patties made by mixing pan corn flour with water, salt, and olive oil to form a soft dough. The dough is shaped into thick patties and cooked on a griddle or skillet until golden on each side, then optionally finished in the oven. The cooked arepas can be split open and filled with various fillings like cheese, meats, or vegetables.

Description

This recipe uses pan corn flour combined slowly with water, salt, and olive oil to form a smooth dough that rests briefly before shaping. The dough is divided into portions, rolled into balls, and flattened into patties with slightly moist hands to prevent sticking. Cooking is done over medium heat on a griddle or skillet with added butter or oil to develop a lightly crisp exterior and tender interior.

Optionally, cooking can be finished in a low-temperature oven to ensure thorough cooking inside. Once cooked, the arepas are sliced horizontally to create pockets that can be filled with diverse ingredients such as cheese, beef, chicken, or deli meats, providing a flexible and hearty meal base.
