Asian Salmon in Foil
Description
This recipe uses a mixture of honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, seasoned rice vinegar, sesame oil, freshly grated ginger, and sriracha for a glaze with balanced sweetness, acidity, and umami. The salmon is placed on foil, spooned with the glaze, and the foil is sealed to create a steaming effect during baking at 375°F.
The fish cooks gently in its juices for 15-20 minutes until tender. After baking, the foil packet is opened and the salmon is broiled for a short time to caramelize the glaze and add a slight char, enhancing flavor and texture.
Green onions and sesame seeds garnish the salmon before serving, adding freshness and nutty crunch. This foil-baked method is convenient and helps keep the salmon moist while infusing it with aromatic Asian flavors.
Baking times may vary based on the thickness of the salmon, so checking doneness is advised. Serve immediately for best flavor and texture.
Ingredients
- ¼ cup honey
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce reduced sodium
- 1 tablespoon seasoned rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon ginger freshly grated
- 1 teaspoon sriracha optional
- black pepper to taste, freshly ground
- 2 pounds salmon
- 2 green onions thinly sliced
- ½ teaspoon sesame seeds
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with foil.
- In a small bowl, whisk together honey, garlic, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, ginger, Sriracha and pepper, to taste.
- Place salmon onto the prepared baking sheet and fold up all 4 sides of the foil. Spoon the honey mixture over the salmon. Fold the sides of the foil over the salmon, covering completely and sealing the packet closed.
- Place into oven and bake until cooked through, about 15-20 minutes.* Open the packet and broil for 2-3 minutes, or until caramelized and slightly charred.
- Serve immediately, garnished with green onions and sesame seeds, if desired.
Notes
- Baking time should be adjusted according to the thickness of the salmon to ensure it is cooked through without drying.
