Avocado Brownies
Description
This brownie recipe embraces mashed avocado and ripe bananas as moistening agents, blending them with creamy nut butter (without added sugars or oils), cocoa powder, and maple syrup for sweetness. The batter is processed smooth and enhanced with chocolate chips stirred in for bursts of melted chocolate.
Baked in a parchment-lined pan at 350°F until just set, these brownies offer a tender crumb with chocolaty richness balanced by fruit sweetness and nutty undertones from the nut butter. The avocado contributes creaminess without avocado flavor.
Allow brownies to cool fully before slicing to hold their shape well. They can be stored in the refrigerator for several days or frozen for longer preservation.
For variations, substitute nut butter types or reduce maple syrup for a lower sugar version using suitable liquid sweeteners. Careful not to overbake to retain moistness.
Ingredients
- 1 avocado about ⅔ cups mashed, medium
- 1 ¼ cups banana about 2 large bananas, mashed
- ⅓ cup nut butter creamy
- ¼ cup cocoa powder
- ⅓ cup pure maple syrup
- ⅓ cup chocolate chips
Instructions
- First, preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line an 8 inch square baking pan with parchment paper.
- Add all ingredients except chocolate chips to a food processor. Process until smooth and creamy.
- Then, stir in chocolate chips.
- Spread batter into lined baking pan. Dot with extra chocolate chips if desired.
- Bake for 20 to 22 minutes or until the middle is barely set.
- Finally, remove from oven. Allow to cool before slicing into.
Notes
- Use ripe avocado and bananas for the best texture and natural sweetness.
- Select natural nut butter made only from nuts and salt, avoiding added sugars or oils.
- Bake brownies until just set in the middle to avoid dryness.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to five days or freeze up to two months.
- Optionally, use sugar-free chocolate chips and a low-carb liquid sweetener to reduce carbs.
