Avocado Brownies
Description
Avocado Brownies are prepared by combining dry ingredients—cacao powder, oat flour, baking powder, and salt—and wet ingredients including mashed avocado, eggs, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. The wet mixture is blended smooth then mixed gently with the dry ingredients before stirring in chocolate chips. The batter is baked in an 8x8 pan at 350°F for 20 to 25 minutes until set and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
The addition of avocado replaces traditional fats, contributing moisture and a soft crumb without overpowering the chocolate flavor. The oat flour provides structure and a mild, nutty note that complements the cocoa. Chocolate chips add bursts of melted chocolate inside and on top for contrast.
The brownies are cooled completely before slicing into nine pieces for serving. The recipe notes options to swap maple syrup for honey or similar sweeteners, and alternative mix-ins like nuts instead of chocolate chips. Substitutions for oat flour are discouraged here due to texture considerations. The recipe hasn't been tested vegan due to the use of eggs and suggests alternative vegan brownie recipes.
