Baked Apples With Pecan Streusel
Description
This recipe preps firm apples by halving and coring them, with slices soaked briefly in apple cider vinegar water to prevent browning. A streusel made from rolled oats, pecans, dark brown sugar, cinnamon, allspice, and salt is sprinkled over the skin-side-down apples in a baking dish. Apple juice is poured over the dish before baking, which keeps the apples moist during cooking.
Baked covered at 375°F then uncovered to brown, the apples become tender but retain some shape, while the streusel crisps and deepens in flavor. The oats and pecans add a crunchy texture contrast to the soft apples, complemented by the spice blend which provides warmth and aromatic notes.
Served warm, this dessert highlights autumn flavors and pairs well with cream or yogurt if desired. Choosing tart, firm apples ensures they hold texture through baking without becoming mushy. Using gluten-free oats is important for gluten-sensitive diets.
