Baked Chicken Parmesan

Baked Chicken Parmesan features seasoned boneless chicken breasts baked under a layer of spaghetti sauce and topped with Parmesan and mozzarella cheeses, then broiled briefly for a golden crust. The result is a tender, flavorful main dish that pairs well with pasta.

Description

This baked version of Chicken Parmesan starts by seasoning chicken breasts with garlic powder, salt, and black pepper, then placing them in a baking dish and covering with spaghetti sauce. Baking at 375°F cooks the chicken through while the sauce infuses moisture and flavor. After baking, Parmesan cheese and optionally shredded mozzarella are sprinkled on top. The broiler is used briefly to brown and slightly crisp the cheese topping, creating a textured finish. The chicken remains juicy beneath the sauce and cheese. Traditionally served alongside pasta tossed in pesto, this dish can also be adapted by substituting boneless pork chops. This preparation streamlines the classic dish without frying, focusing on baked textures and layered flavors.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 pound chicken breast 4 portions, boneless skinless
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 32 ounces spaghetti sauce
  • 4 teaspoons Parmesan Cheese grated
  • 4 ounces mozzarella cheese shredded

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F, and spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with non-stick spray.
  2. If the chicken is very thick, slice it in half horizontally. Season the chicken with garlic powder, salt, and pepper, and place it in the prepared baking dish.
  3. Pour the spaghetti sauce over the chicken breasts, covering them completely.
  4. Bake the chicken breasts for approximately 20 minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F and the juices run clear.
  5. Remove the chicken from the oven.
  6. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top. You may add mozzarella cheese if you like.
  7. To brown the cheese, turn your oven to broil and broil until the cheese turns brown. This may only take a minute or two.

Notes

  • Serve with pasta tossed in pesto for a complete meal.
  • Boneless pork chops can be used instead of chicken breasts for variation.
