Baked Honey Soy Chicken
Description
The preparation starts by rinsing and patting dry the chicken thighs, then massaging them with chopped ginger and garlic to infuse fresh aromatic flavors. A marinade of soy sauce, oyster sauce, honey, sesame oil, white pepper, and salt coats the chicken, which is left to rest at least 30 minutes for flavor absorption. Baking at 375°F on foil ensures even cooking and easy cleanup, while allowing the sauce to caramelize on the chicken surface.
The result is juicy chicken thighs with a sweet-savory glazed crust contrasting tender meat inside. The ginger and garlic add a fragrant edge, while the sesame oil gives subtle nuttiness. The sauce's combination of honey and soy produces balance between sweet, salty, and umami.
This baked chicken pairs well as a main dish served with rice or steamed vegetables, lending itself to casual dinners or meal prep. It requires minimal active cooking time after marination.
The notes mention optional coverage with foil during baking if the surface darkens too quickly but the meat inside remains undercooked, allowing better control over browning.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lbs (700 grams) chicken thighs
- 2 inch (5 cm) ginger peeled and chopped
- 3 cloves garlic peeled and chopped
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 3 dashes white pepper
- 1 pinch salt
Instructions
- Rinse the chicken thighs and pat them dry with paper towels. Add the ginger and garlic, rubbing them gently onto the chicken thighs. Add the remaining ingredients and stir to coat well.
- Set aside to marinate for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Arrange the chicken on a tray lined with aluminum foil and bake for 40 minutes in the center of the oven.
- Or until the surface turns golden brown and slightly charred, and the inside of the chicken thighs is fully cooked. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Cover the chicken with aluminum foil during baking if the surface darkens too much before the chicken is fully cooked inside.
