Baked Spaghetti
Description
This Baked Spaghetti starts with al dente spaghetti cooked and tossed in a mixture of eggs, melted butter, and Parmesan cheese. Separately, ground beef is cooked with garlic and onion, then combined with a jar of meatless spaghetti sauce seasoned with Italian herbs and seasoned salt. The spaghetti mixture is layered with ricotta and mozzarella cheeses and the meat sauce inside a baking dish.
The casserole is baked covered first, then uncovered to allow the cheese to melt thoroughly and develop a lightly browned surface. The resulting dish features tender noodles coated in a rich and flavorful meat sauce, punctuated with creamy ricotta and melted mozzarella for a satisfying texture contrast.
Sides such as garlic bread and a simple salad complement the dish well. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for later meals. The recipe is adapted from Taste of Home and offers a comforting layered pasta dish that combines ease and classic flavors.
Ingredients
- 1 lb spaghetti
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 yellow onion medium, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 jar (32 ounces meatless spaghetti sauce)
- 1/2 /2 teaspoon seasoned salt
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 2 egg
- 1/3 /3 cup Parmesan Cheese grated
- 5 tablespoons butter melted and slightly cooled
- 16 ounces ricotta cheese whole milk
- 3 cups mozzarella cheese shredded
Instructions
- In a large pot of salted water, cook spaghetti al dente, according to package directions. Meanwhile, in a large skillet, cook beef, onion, and garlic over medium-high heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Stir in spaghetti sauce, seasoned salt, and Italian seasonings.
- In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, Parmesan cheese and butter. Drain cooked noodles and cool slightly; add spaghetti to the egg mixture and toss to coat.
- Place half of the spaghetti mixture in a greased 9x13 baking dish. Top with half of the ricotta cheese, meat sauce and mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers.
- Cover and bake at 350° for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake for 10 minutes longer or until cheese is melted. Serve with garlic bread and a simple salad. Store leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container.
Notes
- Use al dente cooked spaghetti to prevent overcooking during baking.
- Drain excess fat from cooked ground beef to avoid greasy sauce.
- Layer ingredients evenly for consistent flavor and texture throughout the dish.
- Cover baking dish while baking initially to keep moisture and finish uncovered to brown cheese.
- Store leftovers in airtight containers in the refrigerator for best freshness.
- Serve with garlic bread and fresh salad to balance the richness of the casserole.
