Banana Brownies
Description
Get the Recipe: Banana Brownies use a combination of mashed ripe banana, all natural creamy peanut butter, and cocoa powder to create a thick batter that bakes into a rich, moist dessert. Natural sweeteners such as maple syrup or honey impart subtle sweetness without refined sugars. Vanilla extract enhances the overall flavor, while baking soda helps with slight rise and texture.
The batter is thicker than traditional brownie batter, and chocolate chips folded in add bursts of melted chocolate. Baking in an 8-inch pan at 325 degrees Fahrenheit for about 18 to 20 minutes allows the brownies to firm up just enough on top but remain gooey inside.
This dessert pairs well with dairy-free chocolate chips for a refined sugar-free and dairy-free option. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for a couple of days, then refrigerate or freeze to extend shelf life.
Ingredients
- 1 cup peanut butter all natural creamy
- 1 cup banana mashed
- 1 egg
- 3 tbsp cocoa powder
- ⅓ cup pure maple syrup or honey
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ⅔ cup chocolate chips
Instructions
- First, preheat oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Line an 8 inch square pan with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, add all ingredients except chocolate chips. Batter will be pretty thick.
- Then, fold in chocolate chips.
- Spread brownie batter down into the lined pan. Smooth out on top.
- Bake for 18 to 20 minutes or until brownies look barely set in the middle. They will be gooey!
- Finally, remove from oven. Allow brownies to fully cool before slicing.
Notes
- Select all natural creamy peanut butter without added ingredients for best consistency.
- Ripe bananas deliver optimal flavor and moistness in the batter.
- For dairy-free and refined sugar-free brownies, use naturally sweetened chocolate chips such as Hu Kitchen.
- Bake until top barely sets to keep the desired fudgy gooey texture inside.
- Store brownies at room temperature up to two days, then refrigerate or freeze as needed for longer storage.
