BBQ Chicken Wings

BBQ Chicken Wings are baked wings coated with a flour and baking powder mixture for crispiness, then tossed in a homemade barbecue, sriracha, and garlic sauce. The wings finish cooking under higher heat to thicken and caramelize the sauce, resulting in sticky, flavorful wings with a balance of smoky and spicy notes.

Description

This BBQ Chicken Wings recipe starts by preparing chicken wings with seasoning and a dusting of flour and baking powder to promote a crispy skin when baked. After an initial bake at 425°F, the wings are flipped and baked again to cook evenly through.

Meanwhile, a sauce is prepared combining barbecue sauce, sriracha, and minced garlic, bringing a sweet, smoky, and spicy flavor profile to the wings. After the initial bakes, wings are tossed in the sauce and returned to the oven at a higher temperature (450°F) to thicken the sauce and create a glaze. A final brief broil encourages caramelization and browning.

Alternative cooking methods include air fryer and grilling. In the air fryer, oil, salt, and pepper replace the flour and baking powder step to achieve crispness, and cooking times are adjusted. For grilling, wings are similarly seasoned without flour or baking powder and cooked over medium heat with occasional turning and optional basting during the last minutes.
