Bear Paw Cookies

Bear Paw Cookies are soft, round sugar cookies topped with chocolate melting wafers and semi-sweet chocolate chips arranged to mimic a bear’s paw. The dough is creamed with butter and sugar, spiced with vanilla, and baked until just golden. Decorating with chocolate pieces after baking gives a distinctive paw print pattern. The cookies balance a tender crumb with subtle sweetness and a chocolate accent, making them a playful treat.

Description

These cookies start with a soft, creamed dough made from butter, sugar, egg, and vanilla. Flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt are added to form a soft dough that is scooped into balls and baked on a lined sheet. The cookies bake at 350 degrees until lightly golden but still soft.

Once baked and cooled slightly, a melting wafer is placed in the center of each cookie to represent the paw’s pad. Three semi-sweet chocolate chips are arranged above to create claw shapes. This decoration adds a rich chocolate flavor and a whimsical design.

The texture is soft and tender with a slight sugar crust if rolled in extra sugar before baking. The vanilla provides a warm, mellow flavor. They can be served as a playful cookie for gatherings or everyday snacking.
