Beef And Broccoli Crock Pot Recipe (gluten-free)
Description
This crock pot recipe combines cubed beef with a marinading sauce of soy sauce, maple syrup, sesame oil, garlic powder, and broth. The beef cooks on low heat for six hours until tender. Shortly before serving, a portion of the sauce is thickened with arrowroot powder and returned to the pot, then fresh chopped broccoli is added to complete the cooking.
The slow cooking infuses the beef with the flavorful sauce while keeping it tender, and finishing with broccoli preserves some crispness and fresh texture. The sauce carries sweet and savory notes, balanced by sesame oil’s nuttiness. Serving over rice is optional and provides a hearty base.
For a thicker sauce, arrowroot can be added earlier, about an hour before serving. Gluten-free soy sauce or tamari ensures the dish suits gluten sensitivity. Chunk steak is preferred for tender beef, but other cuts also work well. Broth types can vary; chicken or beef broth or bone broth powder can be used interchangeably according to preference.
Ingredients
- ⅓ cup soy sauce
- ⅛ cup maple syrup
- ½ cup broth
- 1.5 teaspoon sesame oil
- ½ tbs garlic powder
- 4 cups beef cubed
- 8 cups broccoli chopped
- 1.5 tbs arrowroot powder
Instructions
- Chop the beef into chunks and the broccoli into bites.
- In the crock pot, whisk together the soya sauce, garlic, maple syrup, and sesame oil.
- Add in the beef and mix until coated.
- Cook on low for 6 hours.
- Thirty minutes before you’re ready to eat, take ¼ cup of sauce out of the slow cooker and whisk in the arrowroot powder until no clump remains. Pour it back into the crockpot.
- Toss in the broccoli and cook on low for thirty more minutes.
- Serve on rice (optional) topped with sesame seeds if you have them.
Notes
- Apply arrowroot powder an hour before serving for a thicker sauce; thirty minutes is sufficient for thinner sauce.
- Use gluten-free or low sodium soy sauce, such as tamari, to keep the recipe gluten-free.
- Cut broccoli into bite-size but sizable chunks to prevent over-softening during cooking.
- Chunk steak is ideal for tender beef and good flavor absorption; other beef cuts also work well in slow cooking.
- Chicken broth, beef broth, or bone broth powder can be used as the cooking liquid base depending on your preference or availability.
