Beef Chow Fun
Description
Beef Chow Fun centers on ho fun wide rice noodles and tender beef strips marinated with soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, and garlic powder. The marinating enhances the beef's taste, ensuring it stays flavorful and tender through cooking. The preparation begins by softening refrigerated noodles with a damp paper towel in the microwave to ease separation and prevent clumping during stir-frying. Ginger slices add aromatic warmth when cooked with the beef. Bean sprouts are quickly stir-fried separately with a small amount of salt to retain their crunch.
The cooking method balances careful timing to avoid overcooking the beef or sogginess in the noodles. Once cooked, the beef, bean sprouts, and noodles are brought together in the pan to blend their flavors without becoming mushy. The dish offers a slightly sweet-savory profile from the sauces and a satisfying texture contrast between soft noodles, tender beef, and crisp sprouts.
This home-style Beef Chow Fun works well as a standalone meal or served alongside lighter vegetable dishes. Using a non-stick pan and chopsticks assists precise stir-frying with less oil, making it practical for everyday cooking. Fresh or dried ho fun noodles can be used; fresher noodles only require slight warming before cooking to separate easily. The dish highlights common Chinese stir-fry techniques and simple ingredients to create a flavorful noodle entree.
Microwaving refrigerated ho fun noodles covered with a wet paper towel softens them for easier cooking.A non-stick pan and chopsticks help stir-fry with less oil while preventing noodles from sticking or breaking.Marinate the beef at least 15 minutes to deepen flavor and keep it tender.Cook bean sprouts briefly with a pinch of salt to maintain crunch before adding to the stir-fry.
