Beef Lo Mein Recipe

Beef Lo Mein combines thinly sliced sirloin with an assortment of vegetables and soft cooked noodles in a savory soy-based sauce. The stir-fry technique blends garlic, mushrooms, broccoli, snow peas, bell pepper, and scallions for contrasting textures. Sesame seeds add a toasted nutty finish to the warm noodle dish.

Description

This Beef Lo Mein recipe starts by preparing a sauce of light soy sauce, dark brown sugar, sesame oil, sriracha, and cornstarch for smooth coating and mild heat. The beef sirloin is thinly sliced against the grain for tenderness and quickly cooked in vegetable oil until no longer pink. It is set aside to keep warm while the aromatics and vegetables—minced garlic, sliced mushrooms, broccoli florets, snow peas, and bell pepper—are stir-fried in the same pan to retain flavor.

Lo mein noodles (or spaghetti as a substitute) are boiled until al dente and drained. The beef, cooked vegetables, and noodles are combined in the wok or skillet. The prepared sauce is poured over the mixture and cooked briefly while tossing to thicken the sauce and evenly coat all ingredients.

The dish is finished with sliced scallions and toasted sesame seeds for added freshness and crunch. Serving immediately while hot preserves the textures and balance of flavors between savory, sweet, and spicy elements in this hearty noodle bowl.

Ingredients

Servings

Lo Mein

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil , divided
  • 1 pound beef sirloin , thinly sliced against the grain
  • 8 ounces lo mein noodles or spaghetti noodles
  • 2 cloves garlic , minced
  • 1 cup white mushrooms , sliced
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1 cup snow peas
  • 1 bell pepper sliced
  • 2-3 scallions , sliced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds , toasted

Lo- Mein Sauce

  • 6 tablespoons soy sauce light
  • 3 tablespoons dark brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha sauce (or to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Mix all ingredients for sauce including soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, sriracha and cornstarch, in a small bowl until smooth. Set aside.
  2. Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
  3. While waiting for the water to boil, heat a wok or large deep skillet over medium-high heat and add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.
  4. Add the beef and cook until no longer pink, then remove from the pan to a plate and cover with foil to keep warm.
  5. Drain any liquid from the pan then add remaining one tablespoon of oil, garlic and vegetables. Meanwhile, drop the noodles in the boiling water and cook according to package directions. (5-9 minutes for al dente, depending on noodle used)
  6. Cook the vegetables until they begin to soften, then add the beef back to the pan. Drain the noodles and add them.
  7. Toss to combine, then pour the sauce over top. Cook while tossing 2-3 minutes until heated through and sauce has slightly thickened.
  8. Add sliced scallions and toasted sesame seeds and serve hot.
