Description
The recipe begins by sautéing garlic and sliced onions to build a fragrant base. Beef chuck cubes are browned then simmered in tomato sauce and water until tender, a process that can take up to two hours depending on the beef quality. Soy sauce, black pepper, lemon rind, and bay leaves are added to enhance the stew’s savory, tangy flavor profile while the meat continues to cook slowly.
Potatoes are introduced later in cooking to absorb flavor and soften in the rich broth. The finished dish offers tender chunks of beef in a thick, flavorful tomato-based sauce with subtle citrus and herb notes from lemon rind and bay leaves. It is traditionally served hot alongside steamed rice to balance the tangy sauce.
Ingredients
- 3 cloves garlic crushed
- 1 piece onion sliced, large
- 2 lbs beef chuck cubed
- 8 ounces tomato sauce
- 1 cup water
- 3 tbsp neutral cooking oil generic cooking oil
- 1 lice lemon with rind
- 1 piece potato sliced, large
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/2 tsp. black pepper ground
- 2 pieces bay leaf laurel
- salt to taste
Instructions
- Heat cooking oil in a pan then saute the garlic and onion.
- Put-in the beef and saute for about 3 minutes or until color turns light brown
- Add the tomato sauce and water then simmer until the meat is tender. Add water as needed. Note this can take 60 to 120 minutes depending on the quality of the beef.
- Add the soy sauce, ground black pepper, lemon rind, laurel leaves, and salt then simmer until excess liquid evaporates
- Put-in the potatoes and cook until the potatoes are soft
- Place in a serving plate then serve hot with rice. Share and Enjoy!
