Beer Battered Fish

This beer battered fish recipe uses cod fillets seasoned with salt and pepper, coated in a spiced flour batter enriched with garlic powder, paprika, egg, and beer. Deep frying in hot oil produces a crispy golden crust while keeping the fish moist inside. The beer lightens the batter and adds subtle flavor.

Description

Beer Battered Fish begins by seasoning cod fillets before dipping them into a batter made of flour combined with garlic powder and paprika for savory depth. Beaten egg and beer gently incorporated into the dry ingredients create a smooth batter that fries up crisp. Cooking the fish in oil heated to 365°F ensures the batter crisps quickly without absorbing excess oil, resulting in an evenly cooked exterior and tender fish inside.

The spices in the batter offer warmth and mild heat notes, complementing the mild flavor of the cod. Frying the fillets for about 4 to 5 minutes on each side yields a golden brown coating. After frying, the fish is drained on a wire rack instead of absorbent paper to avoid steaming and sogginess.

This dish serves well as a main course paired with fries or a fresh salad. The crispy texture contrasts nicely with the flaky fish beneath the batter. It can also be served with tartar or other dipping sauces.
