Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Ice Cream
Description
This chocolate ice cream recipe starts by melting unsweetened chocolate with milk until smooth and allowing it to cool. Meanwhile, eggs are whisked with sugar until light and fluffy, then combined with heavy cream, vanilla, and salt to form a creamy base. The cooled chocolate mixture is then blended into the cream, creating a uniformly rich blend of chocolate and dairy components.
After refrigerating the mixture until cold, it is processed in an ice cream maker according to the manufacturer's instructions to achieve a creamy frozen dessert. The resulting ice cream offers a balanced chocolate intensity with a smooth texture characteristic of custard-style ice creams that use eggs.
Optional mix-ins such as chopped roasted almonds, chocolate chips, cookie dough pieces, brownie bits, or peanut butter chips can be stirred in near the end of churning to add contrasting textures and flavors. These variations allow personalization while maintaining the ice cream's core chocolate richness.
The recipe requires chilling time before freezing and uses standard ice cream maker equipment. The balance of ingredients ensures a stable texture and deep chocolate flavor.
