Best Chocolate Fruit Dip Recipe
Description
The Best Chocolate Fruit Dip Recipe starts by whipping heavy cream to stiff peaks, ensuring a light and airy texture. Separately, softened cream cheese is combined with powdered sugar, sifted unsweetened cocoa powder, and vanilla extract to form a smooth, rich chocolate base. Folding the whipped cream into this mixture results in a creamy, fluffy dip with balanced sweetness and chocolate intensity.
Ideal for fresh fruits like strawberries, bananas, and berries, this dip can also accompany non-fruit dippers such as marshmallows, graham crackers, pretzels, or cookies. The addition of mini chocolate chips or chocolate shavings on top adds a subtle crunch and extra chocolate bursts.
Variations allow replacing vanilla with other extracts like cherry or mint, incorporating peanut butter for richness, or mixing in raspberry or strawberry jam for fruit-infused versions. The dip stores well refrigerated for up to seven days but is best served slightly softened after chilling.
Ingredients
- 1 cup heavy cream I used organic, heavy whipping cream, you may replace with about 2 cups dessert topping (ie. Cool Whip)
- 8 ounces cream cheese (1 package) softened to room temperature, I used full-fat, use neufchatel is preferred
- ⅔ cup powdered sugar or sugar-free powdered sugar replacement
- ⅓ cup cocoa powder unsweetened, sifted for best results
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract swap with other extracts for different flavors
- 1-2 tablespoons mini chocolate chips optional, to garnish the dip
Dipping Suggestions
- strawberries Non fruit dippers: marshmallows, graham crackers, shortbread, pound cake, cookies, and pretzels for dipping
- blackberries
- raspberries
- blueberries
- bananas
- orange
- apple
- peach
- melon
Instructions
- Pour the heavy cream (1 cup) into a medium size bowl, using a hand mixer, whip until stiff peaks form. Place in fridge until ready to use.
- In another bowl, add the cream cheese (8 ounces, soft), sugar (⅔ cup), cocoa powder (⅓ cup) and vanilla extract (1 tsp). Using the mixer, whip until everything is smooth, light and creamy.
- Fold the whipped cream to the chocolate mixture, and stir until fully incorporated. You can use the mixer on a low speed, or just fold in by hand.
- Garnish with mini chocolate chips (a few tablespoons) or chocolate shavings, if desired. Chill until ready to serve.
Notes
- You can substitute vanilla extract with other extracts like cherry, mint, or caramel to change the flavor.
- Add mini chocolate chips directly into the dip or use chocolate shavings as garnish for extra texture.
- Mix in raspberry or strawberry jam with the cream cheese for fruit-flavored versions of the dip.
- Store the dip covered in the refrigerator for up to 7 days; avoid freezing.
- Remove from fridge 20 minutes before serving to soften if a less thick dip is desired.
- Sifting cocoa powder before mixing helps avoid lumps and ensures smooth texture.
