Best Ever Chocolate Cake

This chocolate cake combines cocoa, sugar, and a blend of leavening agents to create a moist, tender crumb with a rich chocolate flavor. The boiling water added to the batter thins it, helping to produce a delicate texture. It works well for baking in a 9x13 pan, layered cakes, or cupcakes, lending versatility based on your occasion. The recipe balances sweetness and chocolate intensity for a classic dessert.

Description

Best Ever Chocolate Cake uses cocoa powder and a combination of baking powder and baking soda to achieve a light yet rich chocolate cake. Eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla flavor the batter and contribute to its moist texture. The boiling water is mixed in last, thinning the batter and enhancing the cake's softness once baked. This cake can be baked in various pan sizes or as cupcakes, adjusting baking times accordingly. Cooling the cake on wire racks after baking helps preserve its texture and finish.

This chocolate cake serves as a versatile dessert base, suitable for frosting or enjoying plain. It's appropriate for birthdays, casual gatherings, or any time a chocolate cake is desired. The recipe’s neutral sweetness makes it a good match for buttercream or cream cheese frostings.

The notes recommend pan size and baking times for different forms—use a 9x13 pan for a single cake or 8-inch round pans for layers, and line cupcake pans with paper cups. Baking times vary from 22 minutes for cupcakes to around 40 for larger cakes, and a toothpick test ensures doneness.
