Best Fudge Brownies

Best Fudge Brownies combine a rich mix of butter, sugar, eggs, cocoa, and flour to create dense, chocolatey squares. The inclusion of hot fudge sauce both mixed inside and swirled on top adds an extra layer of gooey sweetness and decorative texture. The brownies bake to have slightly crunchy edges with a fudgy center, making them a satisfying dessert for chocolate lovers.

Description

These Best Fudge Brownies start with creaming butter and sugars until soft, then incorporate eggs and vanilla to establish a creamy batter. Flour and sifted cocoa powder are folded in carefully to retain a dense texture. Hot fudge sauce stirred into the batter adds moisture and richness while the remaining fudge is artistically spread and marbled on top before baking.

Once baked in a 9x9 pan, the brownies develop a firm, crisp edge that contrasts with the tender, fudge-like center infused with chocolate sauce. The toothpick test may be less reliable due to the fudge topping, so visual cues of firm edges and slight separation from the pan indicate doneness.

These brownies work well served as a standalone dessert or paired with milk or coffee. The fudgy texture and chocolate intensity appeal to those who appreciate a dense and moist brownie rather than a cakey one.

Ingredients

Servings
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 egg large
  • ½ cup flour
  • 1 cup cocoa powder sifted
  • 5 tbsp hot fudge sauce divided

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Lightly grease 9x9 pan with cooking spray or butter.
  3. In a large bowl, combine sugar and butter and mix until soft.
  4. Add vanilla and eggs, and mix thoroughly.
  5. Fold in flour and cocoa, mix well but do not overmix.
  6. Mix in 2 tbsp lightly warmed hot fudge.
  7. Mix well.
  8. Pour into pan.
  9. Spread remaining 3 tbsp of hot fudge across top of brownies - I make 3 long lines, then drag a spoon back and forth over the top of the brownies to make a design in the fudge.
  10. Bake until sides of brownies are crunchy and have slightly pulled away from the pan. Toothpick inserted in middle might not come out clean because of the hot fudge swirled on top, but if you can avoid the fudge, toothpick in middle should come out clean.
