Best Margarita Recipe
Description
This margarita recipe begins by preparing simple syrup from sugar and water to provide sweetness. The cocktail combines 18 ounces each of blanco tequila and fresh lime juice, along with orange liqueurs like La Belle or Grand Marnier, triple sec, and a small addition of orange juice. These components produce a layered citrus taste balanced by the alcohol.
The drink is chilled in a pitcher, with glasses rimmed by dipping first in simple syrup then coarse sea salt before serving over ice. The garnish includes sliced lime and orange for aroma and visual appeal. The shaking step before serving helps to blend flavors and chill the drink further.
Single servings can be prepared in a shaker with specific measurements, making it easy to create individual cocktails with consistent flavor. This margarita offers a balanced approach that highlights fresh lime and tequila without overpowering sweetness or acidity.
Ingredients
- 18 ounces tequila blanco
- 18 ounces lime could be fresh bottled lime juice from the refrigerated section, but not the concentrated kind. FRESH, fresh squeezed juice
- 9 ounces La Belle or Grand Marnier
- 8 ounces simple syrup + a little extra for glass rims
- 3 ounces orange juice
- 3 ounces triple sec
- sea salt for glass rims, coarse or flake
- lime for garnish, sliced
- orange for garnish, sliced
Instructions
- Start by making the simple syrup, if you don't have any on hand. Mix 7 ounces sugar with 7 ounces water. Microwave until the sugar has dissolved. You should have about 9-10 ounces so there will be a little extra for rimming the glasses.
- In a large pitcher, combine all the margarita ingredients. Stir well and chill.
- When ready to serve, pour the remaining simple syrup in a shallow dish. Pour sea salt (or flake salt) in a second shallow dish. Then dip the glass rims in simple syrup, followed by salt.
- Add ice to the glasses if desired, and fill a shaker with ice. Add the margarita mix to the shaker and shake for 10-15 seconds. Pour into glasses. Garnish the glasses with sliced limes or oranges and serve. Ole'!
Notes
- Prepare simple syrup ahead by dissolving equal parts sugar and water; reserve some for rimming glasses.
- Single servings combine specified measurements of tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur, simple syrup, and orange juice shaken with ice.
- Use coarse or flaked sea salt to rim glasses after dipping in simple syrup for balanced salty tang.
- Garnish with lime and orange slices to enhance presentation and aroma.
