Best No Bake Oreo Pudding Dessert Recipe (No Cool Whip)
Description
The dessert starts with an Oreo cookie crust created by crushing family-size Oreo cookies into medium crumbs and combining with melted butter. A homemade whipped cream is prepared by whipping heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form, providing a light, creamy topping. The cream cheese layer blends softened cream cheese with powdered sugar for a smooth tangy filling. Chocolate pudding mix is prepared with milk to form a rich pudding layer.
These components are layered in a container starting with the crust, followed by cream cheese mixture, pudding, and topped with whipped cream and reserved Oreo crumbs for garnish. The chilled dessert combines the Oreo crunch with creamy, sweet, and slightly tangy elements. Variations include using different Oreo flavors or puddings, and serving in individual cups enhances presentation.
It stores well refrigerated for up to five days and can be frozen for a frozen dessert option. Fresh homemade whipped cream is preferred for best taste and texture but can be substituted with thawed Cool Whip tub style for convenience. Adding fresh fruit or caramel drizzle can add variety to the layers.
Ingredients
Oreo Cookie Crust
- 40 cookies Oreo cookies Family size pack; Regular, Double Stuf or Gluten-Free
- ¼ - ½ cup butter unsalted or salted
Homemade Cool Whip (split in recipe)
- 2-3 cups heavy whipping cream (if thicker layers desired, add additional ½-1 cups whipping cream)
- 2-4 tablespoons powdered sugar to taste, I used 2 ½
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Cream Cheese Layer
- 8 ounces cream cheese regular or Neufchâtel, softened
- ¼-½ cup powdered sugar I used ¼ cup
Chocolate Pudding Layer
- 2 .9 ounce chocolate pudding mix I used Godiva 3.7 ounce, instant
- 3¼ cups milk Cold, any % should work
Instructions
Make Homemade Cool Whip
- If you are using store bought Cool Whip, you may skip this step, (make sure it's thawed)! Check out my homemade Cool Whip post! In the bowl of a stand mixer, pour in heavy whipping cream and attach whisk attachment. Beat on medium-high speed until soft peaks form.
- With the mixer on low, add in the powdered sugar a little at a time, this is a pretty sweet dessert, you don’t need the whipping cream to be super sweet.
- Add the vanilla extract and whip on medium-high speed until stiff peaks form. Watch it though, it can go from whipped cream to butter in no time. Store in the fridge until ready to use, but try and use within the first 30-60 minutes of whipping.
Oreo Cookie Crust
- Crush the Oreos into medium crumbs, not too fine. You want some chunks. Crush in food processor, pulsing until desired consistency or place in gallon freezer baggie and use rolling pin to crush.
- Reserve ¼ - ⅓ cup Oreo crumbs for topping.
- Place the balance of crushed Oreos in a medium bowl, stir in cooled melted butter until combined. Press Oreo crumb mixture into the bottom of a 13x9 inch baking dish. Refrigerate while you prepare the rest of the ingredients.
Cream Cheese Layer
- In a medium mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth, light and fluffy. Add ¼ - ½ cup of powdered sugar and beat until smooth. Fold in half of the homemade cool whip mixture and spread evenly over the Oreo crust. Refrigerate while making the pudding layer.
Pudding Layer
- In a large mixing bowl, with a hand or stand mixer (I like it with the whisk attachment) mix the pudding and cold milk for 2-3 minutes. Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes, then spread pudding over the cream cheese layer.
Final Layer
- Top with the rest of the homemade cool whip and top with reserved crushed Oreos, I like to add a few extra larger chunks of Oreo's as well.
- Refrigerate 4 hours or overnight to set.
Notes
- Keep the dessert refrigerated; it will last up to 5 days when chilled properly.
- You can freeze this dessert and enjoy it frozen for a different texture.
- For best flavor and freshness, prepare homemade whipped cream instead of using store-bought Cool Whip.
- Use at least one family-size pack of Oreos for enough crust material; smaller packs won’t suffice.
- Different Oreo flavors and pudding varieties can be used to customize the dessert.
- This dessert can be assembled in large containers or individual portions like small cups for easier serving and presentation.
