Better Than Sex Cake
Description
Better Than Sex Cake uses a classic devil’s food cake base enriched with a mixture of sweetened condensed milk and caramel sauce poured into holes poked over the warm cake to add moistness and flavor. The cake is cooled and chilled to let the flavors meld and the liquid soak in thoroughly. A layer of Cool Whip adds a light, airy creaminess on top, which is finished with chopped Heath candy bars for a crunchy, chocolate-caramel contrast. The combination of textures—from moist cake to creamy topping and crunchy candy—defines the cake's appeal.
The cake can be sliced into squares and served chilled, making it a good make-ahead dessert. It pairs well as an indulgent finish to a meal or a special occasion snack. The recipe uses convenience ingredients like boxed cake mix and store-bought caramel sauce, though these can be substituted with homemade versions for a more personalized touch.
When making the cake, it’s important to poke holes without going through the bottom to prevent leakage. The cake can be stored refrigerated for up to three days, maintaining its texture and flavor.
Ingredients
- 1 box Devil’s Food cake mix plus ingredients to make it
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk (14-ounce)
- ¾ cup caramel sauce (180ml)
- 1 container Cool Whip (8-ounce)
- 3 Heath candy bar chopped
Instructions
- Bake the devil’s food cake according to the directions for a 13x9-inch cake. Cool for 20 minutes or until warm, not hot.
- Using a wooden skewer or fork, poke holes all over the cake. Pour the condensed milk over the cake, tilting the pan as you pour to evenly coat and fill the holes. Drizzle the caramel sauce over the top. Cool to room temperature then refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or cover and chill overnight.
- When ready to serve, spread the Cool whip over the top of the cake. Sprinkle with chopped candy bars. Slice into squares to serve. The cake can be kept refrigerated for up to 3 days.
Notes
- Be careful to poke holes only deep enough to pierce the cake's interior without poking through the bottom to avoid leaking.
- Use homemade caramel sauce if desired for a more natural flavor, though store-bought works fine for convenience.
- Substitute chopped Heath bars with other chocolate candies like Reese’s, Snickers, or chocolate chips to vary textures and flavors.
- The cake can be refrigerated covered for up to 3 days, making it a good make-ahead dessert.
