Bifteki (Greek Baked Beef Patties)
Description
Bifteki (Greek Baked Beef Patties) combines lean ground beef with grated onion and tomato to create patties rich in moisture and flavor. The addition of parsley, egg, breadcrumbs, salt, and pepper binds the mixture, resulting in tender meat patties that hold their shape well when baked. These patties are arranged atop potato wedges tossed in a mixture of lemon juice, mustard, olive oil, oregano, and garlic, which bathes the potatoes in a tangy, savory marinade. Baking them together allows the juices and flavors to meld, producing potatoes with a punch of citrus and herbs while the patties cook through evenly.
The final dish is typically served with cubes or crumbled feta cheese and fresh lemon wedges to add brightness. A side of tzatziki complements the savory meat, providing a cool, creamy contrast. This recipe offers a traditional Greek flavor profile centered on fresh herbs, citrus, and balanced savory elements.
To ensure even cooking, flip the patties halfway through the baking time. The potatoes benefit from the moisture added to the pan, enabling them to roast tender while absorbing spice and herb notes. Serving with feta cheese and tzatziki lends authentic Greek accents and additional textures to the meal.
