Birthday Cake Protein Milkshake
Description
The Birthday Cake Protein Milkshake combines protein powder with vanilla-flavored ingredients and cake batter extract to deliver a creamy, dessert-inspired drink. Ice cubes and xanthan gum contribute to a thick yet smooth texture. The shake is prepared by blending the ingredients until smooth, with flexibility to customize sweetness and consistency by adjusting liquid and ice amounts. Topped with sprinkles, it offers visual appeal and bursts of mild crunch without overpowering the creaminess. This shake can be enjoyed as a protein-rich treat that brings a playful birthday cake flavor to a nutritious drink.
Made in a powerful blender to crush the ice thoroughly, this milkshake balances protein supplementation with indulgent flavor. It can be served in a large glass or bowl to accommodate additional toppings, enabling personalization with various dessert-like add-ons such as whipped cream or candy pieces. The recipe’s structure allows for tweaks in sweetness and thickness to suit individual tastes and dietary needs.
For experimentation and variety, options for extra toppings include sprinkles, light cool whip, marshmallow fluff, and even mix-ins like peanut butter powder or small cookie pieces. These toppings enhance flavor and texture without altering the base recipe’s core characteristics.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup protein powder I used PEScience Cake Pop, vanilla or cake pop, 31g
- 3/4 cup almond milk or other milk of choice, unsweetened, vanilla, 180g
- 200 g ice cubes
- 3 Tbsp vanilla ice cream I used Edy's Slow Churned French Vanilla, 45g
- 1 tsp cake batter extract
- 1/4 tsp xanthan gum
- 1/8 to 1/4 tsp stevia to taste, liquid form
- 1 tsp Sprinkles for topping, plus more if desired, 4g
Instructions
- Add all the ingredients (except sprinkles) to your Ninja IQ. Press start and blend for 10 seconds to get things going; then press the Auto IQ button and blend for the full cycle. (If using another blender, just make sure it is one that is powerful enough to crush the ice!)
- When done, take it out and test. If it needs more sweetness, add more stevia. If it needs to be thinner, add more milk. If it needs to be thicker, add 2-3 ice cubes. Blend again until desired consistency is reached.
- Transfer to bowl (room for more toppings!) or a large glass. Top with sprinkles and whatever else sounds good and sip up! I like to stir my sprinkles in at the end. Blending them with the shake breaks them up too much for me personally, but I still love having them in each bite.
Notes
- Adjust sweetness by adding stevia gradually and tasting until preferred level is reached.
- Modify consistency by adding almond milk to thin or ice cubes to thicken the shake.
- Top with sprinkles after blending to preserve their texture and visual appeal.
- Experiment with additional toppings like light cool whip or peanut butter powder for extra flavor variations.
