Bit-O-Honey Blondies
Description
The blondies begin with browning butter to develop a nutty flavor, which is cooled before mixing with sugars. Eggs and vanilla are incorporated before adding salt, baking powder, and flour to form a smooth batter. The batter is split to bake a bottom layer first. The Bit-O-Honey candies are melted with milk in short microwave bursts until smooth to make a caramel layer, which is poured over the partially baked blondies and topped with white chocolate chips.
Remaining blondie batter is dotted on top in small spoonfuls to create texture and flavor contrasts during the final baking phase. This layered approach results in blondies with a golden crust, soft chewy crumb, gooey caramel pockets, and optional creamy white chocolate spots. The dessert delivers a distinctive caramel and buttery flavor with interesting textures.
Ingredients
- 10 tablespoons butter melted, salted
- 1 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 3 egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 20 Bit-O-Honey candy
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 cup white chocolate chips optional
Instructions
- Melt and brown butter in a skillet over medium heat for about 3-4 minutes, until it turns golden and smells nutty. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and prepare an 8x8 glass pan by spraying it with nonstick cooking spray.
- In a large mixing bowl, blend the browned, cooled butter and sugar using a hand mixer.
- Incorporate eggs and vanilla into the butter-sugar mixture until combined.
- Add salt, baking powder, and flour to the mixture and combine until just integrated.
- Pour half the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 20 minutes.
- While baking, place the Bit-O-Honey candies in a microwave-safe bowl with the milk. Microwave in 30-second intervals until the candies are melted and smooth.
- Pour the melted Bit-O-Honey caramel over the partially baked blondie. Sprinkle the caramel with white chocolate chips.
- Distribute the remaining blondie dough across the top in small spoonfuls.
- Continue to bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, until the top has turned golden and the batter is set. Do not use a toothpick to test for doneness as the caramel center will remain gooey. Instead, look for firm edges and center.
- Let cool completely before serving. Enjoy!
