Black Coffee Ice Cream

This Black Coffee Ice Cream combines half and half with espresso powder and cocoa for a rich, slightly bitter frozen treat. The addition of Dutch process cocoa powder gives it a deep chocolate undertone, while espresso lends a pronounced coffee flavor. Sweetened with sugar and enhanced with vanilla extract, the ice cream achieves a creamy texture with balanced bitterness and sweetness, ideal for coffee lovers seeking a homemade dessert.

Description

The Black Coffee Ice Cream recipe uses half and half as a creamy base infused with espresso powder and Dutch process cocoa powder to deliver concentrated coffee and chocolate flavors. Sugar sweetens the mixture, while vanilla extract adds warmth and complexity. Beginning with heating half of the half and half with the coffee, cocoa, and sugar ensures the powders dissolve fully, creating a smooth blend. After cooling and adding the remaining half and half and vanilla, the cold mixture is processed in an ice cream machine to develop a soft, creamy texture. Freezing the finished ice cream solidifies it for serving.

The result is a frozen dessert with a rich mouthfeel and a balanced interplay between the bold bitterness of coffee and the mild chocolate notes. The recipe recommends eating the ice cream the day it is made to enjoy optimal texture and flavor.
