Ingredients
Sandwich
- 4 (6-ounce) mahi mahi fish filets
- 2-3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 recipe Blackened Seasoning Spice Rub (See recipe below)
- 4 hamburger buns
- lettuce
- tomato sliced
- red onion sliced
- 1 recipe tartar sauce (See Recipe below)
- For serving: fries (chips or coleslaw, lemon wedges, pickle spears)
Spice Rub:
- 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Tartar sauce:
- 1 cup mayo
- 2 tablespoon fresh dill chopped
- 2 tablespoons dill relish
- 2 teaspoons shredded onion
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
Instructions
- Make the Spice Rub: In a small bowl, mix the smoked paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper.
- Season the Fish: Coat both sides of each fillet evenly with the spice mixture, pressing lightly so it adheres.
- Heat the Pan: In a large skillet or cast-iron pan, heat 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat until shimmering.
- Cook the Fish: Add the fillets to the pan and cook for about 4 minutes on the first side, then flip and cook for another 3 minutes, or until the fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork. Remove from heat and let it rest for a minute.
- Prepare the Tartar Sauce: In a small bowl, mix the mayo, fresh dill, dill relish, shredded onion, and lemon juice. Stir well and refrigerate until ready to use.
- Assemble the Sandwich: Toast the hamburger buns if desired. Add the lettuce, tomato slices, red onion and then the cooked Mahi Mahi fillet, to the bun. Spread a generous amount of tartar sauce on the fish. Top with the other half of the bun.
- Serve: Enjoy with fries or chips, coleslaw, lemon wedges, and pickle spears on the side.
Notes
- Store cooked mahi mahi in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat in an air fryer or oven to keep it crispy, then assemble fresh.
- Yes. Wrap the filets tightly in plastic wrap and place in a freezer-safe, airtight container or bag for up to 3 months
