Blueberry Crisp
Description
The Blueberry Crisp begins with a filling of fresh blueberries tossed with sugar, lemon juice, cornstarch, and a pinch of salt to balance the sweetness and help thicken the fruit juices during baking. The topping combines rolled oats and almond flour with brown sugar, salt, and cold butter, processed into coarse crumbs that bake into a crisp, nutty layer. Adding sliced almonds adds extra texture and flavor.
During baking at 350°F, the blueberry filling becomes bubbly while the topping turns golden and crunchy, creating a pleasing contrast in texture between the soft berries and crisp oat-nut crust. This dessert can easily be customized with other fruits such as peaches or apples and complemented with spices like cinnamon or ginger to suit the occasion.
Blueberry Crisp is typically served warm, either on its own or with ice cream or whipped cream. Its adaptability and straightforward preparation make it a dessert suitable for a wide range of seasonal fruits. The recipe’s notes suggest substituting different nuts and adding spices to balance and enrich the fruit flavors, allowing for personalized variations.
