Braised Pork Belly in Soy Sauce Recipe

This Braised Pork Belly in Soy Sauce recipe slow-cooks tender pork belly pieces with garlic, cracked white peppercorns, and a trio of soy sauces. Hard-boiled eggs and fried tofu are added to absorb the rich braising liquid. The combination creates a deeply savory, slightly sweet dish with tender meat and flavorful additions served hot over steamed rice.

Description

The recipe starts by boiling water with garlic and cracked white peppercorns, into which pork belly cut into small pieces is added. After the pork boils, hard-boiled eggs and fried tofu join the pot along with soy sauce, sweet soy sauce, and dark soy sauce to enrich the braising liquid. The pork belly is braised over medium to low heat for around 45-50 minutes until tender and flavorful.

The pork belly becomes soft and juicy as the fat renders down during the long cooking. The soy sauce mixture imparts a balance of saltiness and sweetness, while white peppercorns introduce a subtle heat and help neutralize any pork odor. The eggs and tofu absorb the savory sauce, adding textural variety.

This dish is best served hot with steamed white rice to soak up the braising liquid and balance richness. The tender pork belly and flavored eggs make it a satisfying meal component. Using pork belly with well-marbled fat ensures both moistness and flavor in the final dish.

The notes emphasize selecting pork belly with evenly distributed fat for tenderness and flavor. Soy sauce varieties form the core seasoning, and white peppercorns are key for aroma and heat. Adjust salt to taste after braising. Serving immediately maximizes freshness.
