Brown Sugar Grilled Peaches

Brown Sugar Grilled Peaches combine halved peaches brushed with butter and sprinkled with brown sugar and cinnamon, grilled until tender and caramelized. The grilling brings out the natural sweetness and adds smoky notes. Served warm, it can be enhanced with ice cream for a simple dessert or served alongside savory dishes.

Description

This recipe uses freestone or clingstone peaches halved and pitted, each brushed with melted unsalted butter and coated with brown sugar and a touch of cinnamon. Grilling the peaches cut-side up first allows the sugar to begin melting and caramelizing, then grilling on the other side until golden brown and tender intensifies their sweetness and imparts a slight char.

The contrast between the soft, warm peach flesh and the caramelized exterior creates a pleasant texture contrast. Adding a serving of ice cream complements the warm peaches with creamy coolness, making an easy-to-prepare dessert. Alternatively, skipping the sugar adaptation pairs grilled peaches nicely as a side or salad ingredient.

Handling freestone peaches involves removing the pit by twisting the halves apart, while clingstone peaches require cutting across the middle and using a spoon to remove the pit carefully. Leftover grilled peaches reheat well and may be added to salads or eaten on their own.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 4 medium peaches halved and pitted
  • 2 tablespoons butter melted, unsalted
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon or to taste
  • Ice cream for serving, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat grill to medium-high.
  2. Brush cut side of peaches with butter and sprinkle with brown sugar. Rub the brown sugar into the butter so it sticks. Sprinkle with cinnamon.
  3. Place peaches cut-side up and grill for 3 minutes. Flip over and grill for 3-5 minutes or until browned and tender.
  4. Serve warm with ice cream.

Notes

  • For clingstone peaches, cut across the middle and use a spoon to carefully remove the pit.
  • Omit brown sugar when serving peaches as a salad addition or side to grilled pork.
  • Leftovers reheat well in the microwave or can be chopped into salads.
  • Avoid waxing peaches by scrubbing under hot water before preparation if desired.
