Butter Pecan Squares
Description
Butter Pecan Squares start with a crust made by blending a butter cake mix with an egg, softened butter, and chopped pecans. This forms a nutty, buttery base that is pressed into a greased 9x13-inch pan. The topping consists of cream cheese blended with the remaining eggs and powdered sugar, creating a thick, smooth layer poured over the crust before baking.
The baking process at 350°F develops a golden top and a firm but moist custard-like filling, balancing sweetness with a slight tang from the cream cheese. The pecans add a crunch and a nutty depth to the soft cake base.
After baking, the squares should cool completely—typically 1 to 2 hours—before cutting to allow the topping to set fully and maintain its shape. These squares can be stored refrigerated to keep the cream cheese layer fresh and served chilled or at room temperature.
