Buttermilk Air Fryer Chicken Legs Recipe
Description
This recipe starts by soaking chicken drumsticks in buttermilk for at least two hours or overnight, which tenderizes the meat and adds moisture. A breading mixture is prepared using panko breadcrumbs, flour, baking powder, and a blend of seasonings including salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and dried oregano. After the chicken is removed from the buttermilk, it’s evenly coated in the panko mixture.
The pieces are arranged in an air fryer basket in a single layer and cooked at 390°F. The process includes an initial 15-minute air fry, followed by brushing the chicken with melted butter and turning it to cook for another 10 to 15 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 165°F, ensuring safe doneness. The result is a crispy, golden crust with moist, flavorful chicken inside.
This air fryer method achieves a crunchy texture similar to traditional frying but uses less oil, making it convenient for crispy chicken. The coating’s seasoning blend complements the buttermilk marinade for well-rounded flavor. This dish is suitable for a main course and pairs well with various sides.
