Cabbage Rolls - the recipe for a classic Eastern European dish.

Ingredients
- 1 green cabbage
- 900 gms pork or ground pork, 2 lbs
- 900 gms beef or ground beef, 2 lbs
- 300 gms rice I used long grain, 1½ cups, dry
- 2 onion medium size, yellow
- 2 carrot medium size
- 90 ml olive oil or other vegetable oil, divided, 6 tbsp
- 5 garlic cloves
- 1 liter tomato puree or 4 tbsp of tomato paste, 4 cups
- 9 gms salt or to taste, 1½ tsp
- 45 gms sugar or to taste, 3 tbsp
- 8 gms black pepper 2 tsp
- 3 bay leaf

Notes
- Stuffed cabbage rolls are even better the day after. Some people like them browned-up in a skillet the next day.
- The pot with the stuffed cabbage rolls will keep in the fridge for several days. They also freeze very well.
