Ingredients

  • 1 green cabbage
  • 900 gms pork or ground pork, 2 lbs
  • 900 gms beef or ground beef, 2 lbs
  • 300 gms rice I used long grain, 1½ cups, dry
  • 2 onion medium size, yellow
  • 2 carrot medium size
  • 90 ml olive oil or other vegetable oil, divided, 6 tbsp
  • 5 garlic cloves
  • 1 liter tomato puree or 4 tbsp of tomato paste, 4 cups
  • 9 gms salt or to taste, 1½ tsp
  • 45 gms sugar or to taste, 3 tbsp
  • 8 gms black pepper 2 tsp
  • 3 bay leaf

Notes

  • Stuffed cabbage rolls are even better the day after. Some people like them browned-up in a skillet the next day.
  • The pot with the stuffed cabbage rolls will keep in the fridge for several days. They also freeze very well.
