Cajun Steak Tacos
Description
The Cajun Steak Tacos recipe uses thin cuts of beef steak coated evenly with a spice mix of garlic powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, onion powder, oregano, thyme, salt, and black pepper. The seasoning imparts layers of smoky, spicy, and herby notes to the meat.
The steak is cooked quickly over high heat in olive oil for about 2 minutes per side to achieve a sear while maintaining a pink center. Sliced thin across the grain, the steak remains tender. Peppers and onions cooked separately in olive oil until softened provide a mild sweetness and contrast in texture.
Assembling the tacos involves placing the sliced steak and sautéed vegetables on small, soft tortillas. Adding salsa, guacamole, and slaw provides freshness and creaminess to the spicy meat, completing the dish as a flavorful and well-rounded taco meal.
To maximize flavor and juiciness, rest the steak for 10 minutes before slicing. Cutting across the grain breaks muscle fibers, ensuring tenderness. Optional toppings like avocado slices add creaminess, and chimichurri sauce can be used instead of salsa to enhance herbaceous notes.
