Candy Cookies

These cookies combine a classic sugar and brown sugar dough with chopped candy pieces mixed in for bursts of sweetness. The dough is creamed with butter and oil, producing a soft texture that balances the crunchy candy bits. Chilling the dough can reduce spreading for thicker cookies.

Description

Candy Cookies feature a dough rich in butter and vegetable oil creamed with sugars, eggs, and vanilla for a tender base. Baking powder and soda provide leavening, while salt balances sweetness. The defining ingredient is the chopped candy bars mixed into the dough, adding variety and texture.

Preheating the oven to 350°F ensures a controlled bake, while baking for 6-9 minutes yields cookies with set edges and a soft center. If cookies spread too much, chilling the dough before baking firms up the fats and reduces spreading. Adding pieces of caramel candy benefits from freezing first to prevent melting during mixing and baking.

After cooling, cookies store well at room temperature in airtight containers. Including a slice of white bread in the container helps maintain softness. Freezing the cookies with layers separated by wax paper allows for longer storage and convenience.

Ingredients

Servings
  • ½ cup butter softened
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • Candy

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Cream butter, oil, and sugars in a mixer. Add eggs and beat until fluffy.
  3. Add flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and vanilla. Mix well.
  4. Add cut up candy and mix until all combined.
  5. Add to greased cookie sheet and bake for 6-9 minutes (we baked ours for 7). ENJOY!

Notes

  • Chop about 2 cups of candy bars into pieces about the size of M&Ms.
  • Chill dough for 30 minutes before baking to prevent excessive spreading if needed.
  • Store cooled cookies at room temperature in an airtight container; adding a slice of white bread helps keep them soft.
  • Freeze cookies in sealed bags with layers separated by wax paper for 3-6 months.
  • Freeze caramel candies before chopping to avoid melting and easier handling.
