Candy Corn Layered Pudding Dessert Cups
Description
This dessert is created by preparing two boxes of vanilla instant pudding with milk, then dividing the pudding into thirds and two-thirds portions. The larger portion is tinted orange using food coloring to achieve the signature candy corn color gradient. The cups are filled first with the plain vanilla pudding on the bottom and then the orange layer on top, creating a two-tone effect reminiscent of candy corn.
Each cup is finished with a topping of Cool Whip or whipped cream to add a light, creamy texture that contrasts the smooth pudding layers. The decoration includes candy corn pieces and colored sugar in orange and yellow tones, emphasizing the candy corn theme without crowding the surface.
These cups can be prepped ahead by assembling the pudding layers and refrigerating. The whipped topping and decorations are best added just before serving to keep their shape and freshness. Storage in the refrigerator is recommended to maintain texture and temperature.
For transport or stability, arranging cups in muffin tins before refrigerating can help prevent spills. The dessert serves well chilled and can hold for a short period at room temperature during serving.
Ingredients
- 2 boxes Instant pudding mix 5.1 oz boxes, vanilla flavor
- 2 boxes pie filling 5.1 oz boxes, vanilla flavor
- 6 cups milk cold
- Food Coloring orange
- 8 oz Cool Whip thawed
- candy corn for decoration
- sugar for decoration, orange and yellow colored
Instructions
- Combine both packages of pudding and milk in a large bowl. Make according to the package directions for pudding (not pie filing).
- Divide pudding so 1/3 is in one bowl and 2/3 is in the other bowl.
- Add five drops of food coloring to the bowl with 2/3 of the pudding, one drop at a time and stirring in between each drop. Stop adding drops once you reach your desired color.
- Fill ten plastic cups 1/3 full with vanilla pudding. Then add about double that amount of the orange pudding on top of the yellow vanilla pudding so you have 1/3 yellow and 2/3 orange. Make sure to leave at least a little space on top for Cool Whip.
- Top each cup with Cool Whip or homemade whipped cream.
- Decorate with candy corn, colored sugars, or any other edible decorations.
Notes
- Prepare pudding layers ahead but add Cool Whip and decorations right before serving to keep texture fresh.
- Limit decorations to colored sugar and one candy corn piece to maintain a neat appearance.
- Store the cups refrigerated, covering extra cups with plastic wrap to prevent skin formation.
- Arrange cups in muffin tins during refrigeration to avoid tipping or spilling.
