Caprese Salad
Description
The Caprese Salad combines ripe tomatoes sliced to half-inch thickness with similarly sliced fresh mozzarella. Arranged alternately on a plate, the salad is drizzled with olive oil and optionally balsamic vinegar, then seasoned with salt and black pepper. Fresh basil leaves scattered on top add aromatic freshness and a slight herbal complexity.
This salad highlights the delicate, juicy texture of tomato with the softness of fresh mozzarella, enhanced by the fruity, slightly peppery olive oil. The optional balsamic adds a gentle sweetness and acidity that complements the other ingredients without overpowering them. The salad is best served immediately to maintain the fresh textures and flavors.
It pairs well with bread or as a light accompaniment to a main meal during warm weather. Leftovers can be stored in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to three days, but flavors and texture may soften over time.
