Caprese Skewers
Description
Caprese Skewers are made by threading cherry tomatoes, basil leaves, and small mozzarella balls onto skewers. The mozzarella can be marinated in a mixture of olive oil, Italian seasoning, and optional sliced garlic for at least 30 minutes to infuse flavor, though this step is optional. The basil leaves are used fresh, and if large, can be torn to better fit the skewers. After assembly, the skewers are drizzled with the reserve olive oil marinade and optionally balsamic glaze, then seasoned with salt and pepper to enhance the natural flavors.
The combination showcases the balance between the juicy acidity of the tomatoes, the creamy mildness of the mozzarella, and the herbal brightness of basil. The balsamic glaze adds a sweet-tangy depth and visually appealing finish. These skewers serve as simple finger foods that can be prepared in advance and refrigerated for up to 24 hours, making them convenient for entertaining or light eating.
Marinating the cheese adds flavor but can be omitted for quicker assembly. If skipping marination, simply drizzle olive oil and balsamic glaze just before serving. The skewers offer a fresh alternative to traditional Caprese salad presentation.
