Caprese Skewers

Caprese Skewers combine cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella balls, and basil leaves threaded onto skewers, finished with an olive oil dressing and a drizzle of balsamic glaze. The bite-sized ingredients create a fresh, vibrant appetizer with a balanced mix of creamy, tangy, and herbaceous flavors. The contrast of red and yellow tomatoes adds visual appeal and complements the mild mozzarella, making these easy-to-eat skewers ideal for parties or light snacks.

Description

The Caprese Skewers assemble fresh cherry tomatoes in red and yellow hues with small basil leaves and bite-sized mozzarella balls on 6-inch skewers. An olive oil dressing seasoned with Italian herbs and salt enhances the natural flavors, while a balsamic glaze drizzle adds a subtle sweetness and acidity. The combination of fresh produce and simple seasonings results in a refreshing, finger-friendly appetizer with a pleasing color contrast and a variety of textures from the juicy tomatoes to the soft cheese and fragrant basil.

These skewers are well suited for serving at gatherings where individual portions are preferred, and their size makes them easy to handle and eat. Their fresh ingredients can be prepared ahead and assembled just before serving to keep the components vibrant. For best results, ingredients should be similar in size to ensure even layering and ease of consumption.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 24 cherry tomato red
  • 12 cherry tomato yellow
  • 24 mozzarella bite sized fresh balls
  • 36 basil leaves small
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 1 /2 tablespoons balsamic glaze
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Start with 12 6-inch skewers. Thread the tomatoes, basil and mozzarella onto the skewers in the pattern shown in the images above.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the olive oil, Italian seasoning and salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Arrange the skewers on a plate and drizzle with the olive oil mixture.
  4. Place the balsamic glaze in a small plastic bag with one corner snipped off. Drizzle the balsamic over the skewers, then serve.

Notes

  • Choose cherry tomatoes, mozzarella balls, and basil leaves that are similar in size for consistent skewer assembly and ease of eating.
  • Ciliegine mozzarella pairs well size-wise with cherry tomatoes and works best for uniform skewers.
  • Using both red and yellow cherry tomatoes adds visual variety without affecting flavor.
