Caramel Apple Dump Cake
Description
Caramel Apple Dump Cake begins with a base of sweet, canned apple pie filling placed in a greased casserole pan. Ground cinnamon is sprinkled atop the apples, followed by a drizzle of caramel ice cream topping to infuse richness and a buttery sweetness. Dry yellow cake mix is then evenly layered over the filling and topped with melted butter to create a tender crust as it bakes.
Baked at 350°F for 50 to 60 minutes, the cake develops a golden top with moist, flavorful layers beneath. The combination of sweet apples, warm cinnamon, and caramel provides a classic autumnal dessert flavor. The texture contrasts between the soft fruit and the buttery cake topping.
This cake serves well warm, and leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 to 5 days; reheating in a microwave or oven restores its softness. Variations can include different pie fillings or substituting cake mix types, though cinnamon may be omitted if using spice cake mix. It can also be made in a crock pot with appropriate precautions to reduce moisture condensation.
Ingredients
- 15.25 oz yellow cake mix
- 2 apple pie filling 21 oz each, canned
- 1 Tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1 c. butter melted
- 1/4 c. caramel ice cream topping
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Pour apple pie filling into bottom of greased 8×11 casserole pan or 2 1/2 quart casserole dish. Sprinkle cinnamon over the top of pie filling. Top with caramel ice cream topping. Pour dry cake mix over filling.
- Pour butter on top of cake mix.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 50-60 minutes.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3 to 5 days to keep the cake fresh.
- Reheat servings in the microwave or oven to restore warmth and softness before eating.
- Substitute pie fillings like cherry, blueberry, or pumpkin for variety; omit caramel when changing filling flavors.
- Vanilla, yellow, or spice cake mixes can be used; skip adding cinnamon if using spice cake mix.
- To prepare in a crock pot, spray the liner with non-stick spray, assemble as directed, cover the lid with a towel to absorb moisture, and cook on high for 2 hours or low for 4 hours.
