Caramel Apple Dump Cake
Description
The Caramel Apple Dump Cake starts with spreading canned apple pie filling evenly in a greased 9x13 baking dish. Caramel sauce is drizzled over the apples to add lush sweetness. A yellow cake mix is combined with ground cinnamon and nutmeg and sprinkled over the fruit layer. A butter and vanilla mixture is poured on top to moisten the dry cake mix, allowing it to bake into a soft, golden topping with a slight crunch at the edges.
Baking at 350°F for about 45-50 minutes creates a bubbly, fragrant dessert where the apples remain tender beneath a spiced, cakey crust. The contrast between the creamy caramel, spiced apple filling, and buttery cake topping characterizes this dish. Serving it warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream and additional caramel sauce, enhances the comforting texture and flavor.
This recipe allows for flexibility in cake mix choice, with the original notes suggesting white, yellow, vanilla, or spice cake mixes as good alternatives to yellow. The simple layering and minimal hands-on work make it an accessible dessert for various occasions.
