Caramel Rice Krispie Treats
Description
Caramel Rice Krispie Treats start with a bottom layer of Rice Krispies mixed with melted butter and marshmallows pressed into a pan. A caramel layer made by melting caramels with butter and sweetened condensed milk is poured over this base. The top layer repeats the first’s marshmallow and cereal mixture, which is pressed softly over the caramel. After chilling, the bars firm up with a combination of chewy and creamy textures.
The bars balance the light crispness and softness of the cereal marshmallow base with the rich, buttery, and sweet caramel in the middle. The preparation uses common pantry ingredients and baking techniques to produce a dessert that is denser and more indulgent than standard rice krispie treats.
They can be cut into squares and served as a snack or dessert. Pressing the cereal mixture gently but firmly is key to holding the layers together without compacting too tightly.
Storing in an airtight container prevents drying out, and freezing individual wrapped pieces extends freshness up to two months. Variations include adding sea salt over the caramel for contrast or drizzling melted chocolate on top.
