Caramel Toffee Dip
Description
To prepare, softened cream cheese is whipped together with brown sugar and pure vanilla extract until smooth and fluffy. The mixture is spread in a shallow dish, topped with a layer of thick caramel sauce, and sprinkled with chopped Heath Bar toffee bits to add crunch and a buttery caramel flavor.
Fresh apple slices, preferably crisp varieties like Honeycrisp or Gala, accompany the dip for freshness and tart contrast. Serving the apples with a lemon juice wash prevents browning, preserving their appearance and texture. The dip combines creamy and caramel flavors with the texture of crunchy toffee and crisp apples for a multi-textured treat.
This sweet dip keeps well in the refrigerator for about a week, making it convenient for party preparation. It can be served on various dishes depending on occasion size and presentation preference.
Ingredients
- 12 ounces * cream cheese (softened)
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 16 ounce jar caramel sauce
- 1 cup Heath bar toffee bits
- apples fresh, sliced
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, whip the softened cream cheese with brown sugar and vanilla extract until smooth and light and fluffy.
- Spread into a bowl or small square dish. I suggest a 6 x 6 or 7.5 x 6 dish. Cover with caramel sauce. Sprinkle with chopped Heath Bar toffee bits.
- Cut the chilled apples into slices. If you are going to serve at a party, I suggest sprinkling the sliced apples with lemon juice or fruit fresh to keep the apples from oxidizing and turning brown. You can mix fresh lemon juice with water to dilute the tart lemon flavor.
- Dip the apples into the caramel toffee dip. I suggest placing a small cheese knife nearby to make it easy to scoop up.
- This sweet dip can be stored tightly covered in the refrigerator for 7-10 days.
Notes
- Use 12 ounces (1 1/2 blocks) of full-fat Philadelphia cream cheese for best texture.
- Choose a thick, rich caramel sauce such as Trader Joe's Fleur de Sel or Kroger's Private Selection rather than runny caramel syrup.
- This dip can be served in a bowl, on a plate, or in a small casserole dish, adapting to the serving style needed.
- Slice apples fresh and optionally toss with diluted lemon juice to prevent discoloration during serving.
