Chai Raisin Donuts
Description
Chai Raisin Donuts blend a mixture of warming spices such as cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, nutmeg, and allspice into a tender dough enhanced by raisins. The batter uses plain Greek yogurt and buttermilk, providing moisture and tang, and is leavened with baking powder and baking soda. Baking the donuts instead of frying results in a softer texture with gentle browning. The glaze, made by mixing strong brewed chai tea with powdered sugar, adds a sweet-spiced coating that complements the flavors of the donuts.
The donuts are cooked in a donut pan or maker until just done, then cooled before glazing. Their soft texture with bursts of raisin sweetness pairs well with tea or coffee. These donuts make a nice seasonal treat with a cozy chai profile. They can be served for breakfast, brunch, or afternoon snacks.
Ensure the donuts are completely cool before applying the glaze so it sets properly. The recipe’s use of baking powder and soda gives lift, and the blend of spices creates the signature chai flavor without overpowering. Stirring the raisins into the dry ingredients helps keep them evenly distributed throughout the dough.
