Chai Spiced Apple Crisp

Chai Spiced Apple Crisp combines tender baked apple slices with a lightly spiced chai tea concentrate and cinnamon mixture, topped with a crispy oat and brown sugar streusel. The contrast between the soft, juicy apples and the crumbly, buttery topping offers a comforting dessert with the warming spice notes characteristic of chai.

Description

This recipe uses peeled, cored, and sliced apples coated in a mix of granulated and dark brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, chai tea concentrate, and vanilla to infuse the fruit with warmth and sweetness. The chai concentrate adds a subtle spiced tea flavor that complements the cinnamon. The topping is a crunchy mixture of oats, flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and melted butter, crumbled generously over the apples before baking. Baking at 350°F softens the apples while crisping the topping to a golden brown.

The dessert is best enjoyed after a short resting period to allow the sauce to thicken. It can be served on its own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for added creaminess. The chai spice lends a unique twist on traditional apple crisp, making it suitable for fall gatherings or cozy evenings.

For even cooking, slice apples evenly and keep them in water until ready to prepare. If your oven runs hot, shielding the crisp with foil during baking can prevent burning. The recipe is flexible for make-ahead preparation by tossing the apples with a bit of lemon juice to prevent browning and adding topping just before baking.

  • 1/2 cup butter melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

APPLES

  1. Peel, core and slice the apples (cover them with water while you do this so they don’t go brown)
  2. Add the apples to an 8x8 pan.
  3. Mix together the brown and white sugars with the flour, cinnamon, chai concentrate and vanilla.
  4. Sprinkle over apples and mix with your hands until apples are covered.

CRISP TOPPING

  1. Combine the oats flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and melted butter until roughly mixed.
  2. Sprinkle evenly over the apples.

  4. Bake at 350 degrees F for 40-45 minutes, the apples will be tender and the top crispy and brown.
  5. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
  6. Devour.

Notes

  • Slice apples evenly to ensure uniform cooking; keep slices in water until use to prevent browning.
  • Let the baked crisp rest for at least 10 minutes after baking to thicken the sauce.
  • If the crisp begins to burn before apples are tender, cover loosely with foil while baking.
  • Prepare ahead by tossing apples with lemon juice and adding topping just before baking for best freshness.
